Growing up as a Catholic, I’ve known Christ as the Proper Name for Jesus. Seeking GOD, I discovered that it was only a normalization. It is a Title and not a Proper Name. Where did it come from? What is the root of the Title Christ? Let us understand it in this post.

The Title Christ originated from the Hebrew word Messiah (Mashiach מָשִׁיחַ in Hebrew) rooted in the Oral and Written Torah of Judaism. Even before Christianity started, Judaism existed for millennia and established what Christ/Messiah is and what is required to become a Christ/Messiah. As explained in my previous post The Missing Key to Truth , the Written Torah (Old Testament for Christians) is only a zip format and the unzip format which contains the case-to-case explanation is in the Oral Torah. The problem now is when the Roman Catholic religion started, they translated the Written Torah into Greek, called the Septuagint, and by-passed the Oral Torah. The problem is instead of carrying the original Title Mashiach/Messiah, they’ve by-passed the Oral Torah and created Khristós (χριστὸς in Greek letters). Below are the translation examples:

Leviticus 6:22 (NRSVCE)
And so the priest, anointed from among Aaron’s descendants as asuccessor, shall prepare it; it is the LORD’s - a perpetual due- tobe turned entirely into smoke.

Leviticus 6:22 (Septuagint)
ὁ ἱερεὺς ὁ χριστὸς ἀντ᾽ αὐτοῦ ἐκ τῶν υἱῶν αὐτοῦ ποιήσει αὐτήν νόμος αἰώνιος ἅπαν ἐπιτελεσθήσεται

From the Greek Septuagint, the Roman Catholic religion used Latin (as their official language at that period) and translated it into Latin called Vulgata. Again, they bypassed the Oral Torah, which was already established before the Roman Catholic religion started, and used Mashiach, but they continued to use the term Khristós. (Greek), Christus (Latin). For details, see Chapter 2 of the free book Save Our Souls .

Lamentations 4:20 (Septuagint)
πνεῦμα προσώπου ἡμῶν χριστὸς κυρίου συνελήμφθη ἐν ταῖς διαφθοραῖς αὐτῶν οὗ εἴπαμεν ἐν τῇ σκιᾷ αὐτοῦ ζησόμεθα ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν

Lamentations 4:20 (Biblia Sacra Vulgata)
[Res.] Spiritus oris nostri, christus Dominus, captus est inpeccatisnostris, cui diximus: In umbra tua vivemus in gentibus.

The Roman Catholic was strict and prevented the Bible from being translated into another language to avoid heresy within the translation, so it remained in Latin. It was at the time of Martin Luther that the Bible was translated into German and other language. During these translations, the original Messiah/Mashiach/מָשִׁיחַ was not carried out because the Oral Torah got bypassed (otherwise we would be using the Title Mashiach), so the succeeding translations used the Roman Catholic Bible. Bypassing the Oral Torah and misinterpreting the Written Torah not only means losing the translation, but it also changes the context. Before going to these changes, let us first try to understand the word Christ. Their doctrine states that Christ is a Proper Name as shown below :

Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2nd Edition, p. 870
From the Greek translation of the Hebrew Messiah, which means "anointed." It became the name proper to Jesus because he accomplished perfectly the divine mission of priest, prophet, and King, signified by his anointing as Messiah, "Christ."

Christ is a Title or a Position of a leader. For example, a hypothetical name Noname and he got promoted as Captain. He is now called Captain Noname. If we ask for his name, we can answer Captain Noname, but Captain is not a proper name but a Position of a leader. Christ is a Title or Position of a leader but was just normalized according to their understanding of the criteria of what Christ is and not by the Oral Torah, which the Written Torah/Old Testament relies on. The questions that we should ask are: Was Jesus anointed? What is used for anointing the Christ? When is Christ anointed? If Jesus is GOD, what is lacking in him that requires an anointment to provide salvation? What is the purpose of anointing? We will answer these questions on the next post The Real Christ 2 .
